No access to safe water?

Not everyone has the means to stay safe and healthy during this time of crisis.

Today is World Water Day

What a day to celebrate safe water! A need that connects us all. Sadly though, not everybody has access to it. As the COVID-19 global health crisis threatens lives, it presents an even greater risk to those living in extreme poverty.

This morning as I (Julie) sat in the comfort of my home with a hot cup of coffee in hand, I paused to think about all that is going on in our world. And today, as we consider safe water, I thought about my friends in Malawi who don’t have access to it. At this strikingly unusual time, this pandemic is bringing a hands-on lesson to what life is like for our village friends who don't have access to the fundamentals of safe water and proper sanitation.

My heart quickly went on to question, how would they possibly survive this crisis? There's a beauty and a goodness to village life. Especially in crisis. Which is nothing new to them. Village life is community life, where everyone takes care of those around them. When someone is in need, they offer help from what little they have. They band together in solidarity to care for each other's basic needs, even when their own are barely met. Malawians step up to each difficult situation with love, mercy and compassion. They're fighters. But how will they fight this virus without access to something as basic as clean, safe water? This virus would devastate them.

Now is the time we can band together as a team, bring solidarity to our planet, and help those who are vulnerable both at home and around the world.

Today, more than ever before, we need to support our planet’s most under-resourced communities with safe water, hygiene and sanitation. With your help, and in partnership with our on the ground implementers from Rural Development Partners, Love a Village Mission has been been able to provide safe water and sanitation to thousands of villagers! We can't do this without you.

If you have interest and capacity to support those who are most vulnerable in Malawi, especially at this most fragile time, please help me help them through Love a Village.

Help prevent the spread of disease today!

~ Julie
